Youth Advisory Group

Monday, April 27, 2026, Youth Advisory Committee Meeting

The City of Lago Vista is proud to recognize the generosity and community spirit of our Youth Advisory Committee.

At the Monday, April 27, 2026, Youth Advisory Committee Meeting, members of the Youth Advisory Group presented Keep Lago Vista Beautiful (KLVB) with a donation of $950. These funds were raised through their efforts and will directly support local beautification projects throughout our community.

This contribution reflects the dedication of our youth to making a positive impact and investing in the future of Lago Vista. Their commitment to service and community pride is truly commendable.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Youth Advisory Group for their hard work and to KLVB for their continued efforts in enhancing the beauty of our city.

Repurpose Plastic into Art – Join Our Earth Day Initiative!

In celebration of Earth Day 2026, Anodamine is inviting the Lago Vista community to take

part in a unique sustainability project. Local businesses are encouraged to collect plastic

bottle caps and lids starting Earth Day 2026 through February 2027.

At the end of the collection period, the materials will be transformed into a beautiful

public art installation by Anodamine's very own, Megan Hicks & Team Warehouse.

The panel(s) are to be placed in a Lago Vista park with the help of our partner,

KLVB—turning everyday waste into a lasting symbol of community collaboration and

environmental stewardship.

Participating businesses will be recognized with a commemorative plaque displayed

alongside the artwork, highlighting each organization and the total amount of plastic

diverted from waste.

Join us in making a difference—one cap at a time.

Together, we can create something meaningful for our environment and our community.

To get your business involved contact KLVB at klvbcontact@gmail.com

Contact me should you have any questions about collections or suggestions to help us have an

AMAZING Earth Day celebration in 2027! Email to request a lid collection pickup.

What is Pointillism Art?

We intend to do just that with repurposed plastic round bottle caps and lids.

These are found everywhere! The lid to your chemical products, prescription

bottles, a favorite beverage or coffee canister? It seems that lids are often the small

part of the water bottles and sodas that we find while cleaning up parks and

streets.

By collecting these little dots of plastic until February 2027, we will have time to

create a large mural to present back to the community by next Earth Day.

Please assist by providing a location for your business to collect these

internally. If you would like to help spread the message in the community

further, feel free to display the provided flyer for patrons and customers to

view and contribute as well!

Notes of Importance:

Are you tired of deer munching on your newly planted garden? Whether it's delicate shoots or fresh growth, these unwelcome visitors can wreak havoc on your carefully tended plants. But fear not, there's a simple and effective solution: homemade deer repellent.

We recommend spraying the following homemade deer repellent for at least 3 weeks on newly planted items every three days. If it rains or if you water, you must spray again. Also, in the spring, spray new growth to keep deer from eating the delicate new growth.

The Recipe for Homemade Liquid Fence:

Ingredients:

  • 2 eggs
  • Garlic cloves
  • Water (1 gallon)
  • Dish soap

Instructions:

  1. Crack the eggs and add them to a blender.
  2. Peel and add several cloves of garlic to the blender.
  3. Blend the mixture until smooth.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a bucket.
  5. Pour in one gallon of water.
  6. Add a small amount of dish soap to the mixture.
  7. Allow the mixture to sit in the sun for 24-48 hours.

Application:

  1. Once the mixture is ready, pour it into a pump sprayer.
  2. Spray the solution onto your plants, focusing on newly planted ones or areas with fresh growth.
  3. Repeat the spraying process every three days, especially after rainfall.
  4. In the spring, make sure to target new growth to deter young deer from developing a taste for your plants.

Why It Works:

The pungent odor of garlic and eggs combined with the soapy water creates a repellent scent that deer find unappealing. While harmless to plants and humans, it effectively deters deer from grazing on your garden.

Additional Tips:

  • Store the leftover mixture in a sealed container away from direct sunlight.
  • Be cautious when handling the mixture, as it can be quite smelly.
  • Consider applying the repellent early in the morning or late in the evening when deer are most active.

By following these simple steps, you can protect your garden from deer damage and enjoy a flourishing landscape all season long. Say goodbye to unwanted nibbling and hello to a thriving garden!

MOSAIC LADIES!!!!

Mosaics Ladies

On April 2,2026 at the Lago Vista City Council Meeting, KLVB presented a sign and certificates of appreciation to each of the ladies who worked so dignity on the KLVB Mosaic Pollinators Garden located on Dawn Drive in Lago Vista Texas.A meet and greet was followed at the Hope Center. Many thanks goes out to the Hope Center for the use of their facility.

Here is a little background to the Pollinators.

The original group consisted of Rhonda Weldon, Marcia Temple, Lorrie Fish, and Mindy Hensen.

We added a person or two in the fall of 2024, but they dropped out.

In February of 2025, we added Judy Lanza.

July 8, 2024 Rhonda and Mindy visited the home of Dan and Denise Sellers to see the fiberglass forms, take measurements, and start a pattern.

Mindy worked on drawing the patterns.

Aug. 28, 2024 order first glass tiles.

October 19, 2024 roughed up fiberglass and began cutting tiles into smaller pieces and adhering tiles to the backside of the yellow butterfly.

Worked continued into November and then we stopped production until after the new year. Work continued through January and February, with some working at home nipping tiles.  We did miss a couple of meetings due to cold weather.  March 4, 2025, we moved to Rhonda’s back patio since Mindy was going to be traveling.  We also began working multiple days each week (Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday 9:30-12:00.)

During March, we experimented with inviting others to participate.  Laurie Engels joined us sometime in March.  In  April, Rhonda and Mindy visited Dan and Denise Sellers home to measure the hummingbird and start a pattern.  By the end of April, Chris Fox became a member of the mosaic group.  By the end of May 2025, our group had totaled 1740 hours working on the project.

Work continued through the hot summer months.  We had finished two butterflies and were now working on the hummingbird and both bees.  In July, we noticed that the connection joints of the poles to their bases on the bees needed repair.  Dan and Denise took the bees to Jonestown to have welding repair and new stabilization bars added.

We completed the last of the bees on Dec. 3, 2025.   We worked a total of 2766  hours.

At a modest approximation of cost of labor at $30 per hour, the savings to the City of Lago Vista for the project is $82,980.
